I wanted to thank you for all the coaching and mentorship you’ve provided me during my time at Xelay. I feel fortunate to have started my career at Xelay right after college. In 18 months I learned things that may take me years to learn elsewhere (most likely I will never learn them elsewhere). As a McKinsey consultant, I am awed by the super structured and efficient problem-solving, astoundingly CRISP and synthesized communication, and seamless cross-functional collaboration happening ALL THE TIME at McKinsey. It wasn't until I finished my first McKinsey study that I "truly believe" a lot of things learned at Xelay, which now gave me a HUGE head start and for which I am forever grateful.

It has been 6 months since my last day at Xelay, and I had the opportunity to work at a much larger global management consulting firm. However, I can say with confidence that after I left, 80% of my professional growth came from me revisiting the things I learned at Xelay. Looking back at my Xelay days, I regret how I did not pay enough attention and try my very best to master the skills taught by Alex and other senior Xelayers. Although you, current Xelayers, may not realize it now, those skills/mindset work anywhere in the world, and I guarantee you that you can easily become the top performer at any other firm if you learn them well. So try to believe and act the way Xelay teaches you to. I know it seems so incredibly difficult (sometimes impossible) for now, but you will be thankful after you leave.

I joined Xelay after graduating college with medical school as an option, but I didn’t want to commit to the long and challenging process of medical school without knowing all the opportunities in medicine and whether or not I had the skills to succeed. My time at Xelay has answered both of those questions. Working at Xelay has taught me the ins and outs of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and healthcare companies—expanding my views on what I can do with an MD. I have engaged on projects with MDs at senior level positions in healthcare companies and also practicing physicians who are leaders in their fields of medicine. Xelay has taught me strategy and management consulting skills that are paramount to succeeding in not only medical school, but my entire career. With those skills, I have been able to create tremendous impact early in my career and can take those skills with me throughout my medical training. The training I received on professional development and interpersonal interactions is integral in any professional setting, especially a demanding career in medicine. Xelay provides leadership training, and the environment to practice those skills. Because of my work on many team-based projects, my ability to communicate, organize, and lead has grown immensely. Xelay has without a doubt provided me with a huge advantage as I pursue my career in medicine.

As the year of 2019 passed, I was reflecting on the big moments of my life. I realized that most, if not all, of those big moments were influenced by the learnings from Xelay. Last year, with the new job, I was fortunate enough to get two promotions. Since I expressed my gratitude for the first promotion to lead business planning, I got promoted again to additionally lead the home tab (main tab of the app store) merchandising. This was only possible as I was able to apply influencing skills that I learned during my period as a Chief of Staff in Xelay. I cannot thank you enough for all that Xelay has done to develop me. Now that I work in a bigger firm where individual development is not as important, I realize even more how much care and sacrifice you made for our development. Thank you again, and I hope you and Xelayers’ have a joyful, healthy, and successful New Year!

I learned two invaluable skills during my time at Xelay that have significantly impacted me.
Firstly, learning to master clear and effective communication has transformed how I engage with the world (really!). While I continue to refine this skill daily, Xelay equipped me with the tools to convey information succinctly and comprehensively, whether at work or home. I now understand the importance of initiating conversations with clarity and providing (and only providing) the essential information for your audience to understand your point and respond to your request or FYI.
Secondly, I gained experience in changing my mindset for a better self and fostering resilience. Through reframing my perception of stress, establishing a healthy relationship with it, identifying its root causes, and translating my learning into actionable steps, I have learned to navigate challenging situations with adaptability. Xelay's emphasis on mindset-building and resilience-building has empowered me to confront adversity head-on and emerge stronger from it. These two skills have not only enhanced my professional capabilities but have also enriched my personal growth journey.
